Devine Meat Company was founded in 1943. At the time, Devine Meat Company was a staple outside of town. Today, DMC is in the middle of town and continues to service the local community. Clayton Saunders purchased Devine Meat Company in 2012. With the purchase he brought many family recipes and processes to Devine Meat Company. Today, DMC produces jerky and dry sausage using 150 year old family recipes and techniques. Our jerky and dry sausage is made the old way, they way my grandparents did it.

Boss Man

Clayton Saunders

Clayton grew up in Medina county. Graduated from Devine High School and Texas A&M University. He has a degree in Ag Development. After graduation, Clayton went to work in the corporate world, working for both Toyota and Valero. Eventually, Clayton came to the understanding that he wanted to be his own boss.

In 2012 Clayton purchased Devine Meat Company. The rest is history. Clayton's Meat Market was opened in 2020. WorstJerky.com hit the ground running in 2025.

Today Clayton divides his time between Devine and Portland. His is the usual face of the business at events and shows.

General Manager

Michael Leidner

Michael grew up in Mission, Tx in the Rio Grande Valley. He graduated Mission High School and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. With a degree in Wildlife Management, Michael began teaching high school biology. He taught many of the sciences as well as worked as a mud engineer for Halliburton-Baroid.

In 2021, Michael left teaching to step into the GM role for Clayton's Meat Market.

Today, most of his time is spent at the Portland location, but he does frequent the satellite retail in Odem and the Slaughterhouse in Devine.

Michael, his wife Kate, and two boys, Robert and Gideon live in Orange Grove.

David Schultz

Production Manager

Having attended chef school, Big Dave makes stuff happen. Dave heads up production of dry goods and slaughter. He can be found at the Slaughterhouse/Production facility on a daily basis. He executes many of the ideas that are brought to the table.
